National conference 'Renewable energy sources as an element of local planning'
9-10 May 2002

This conference which took place at the Ministry of Environment was directed mainly at representatives of local governments. Their role is crucial for development of renewable energy sources in Poland because they are administrative bodies responsible for preparation of strategies and local development plans. They take decisions concerning public buildings and issue permits for investors. Local governments are also supposed to resolve social and ecological problems and are centers for promotion of new technologies and for providing help in development of new economic initiatives.

In light of this, the conference program included several presentations aimed at acquainting the participants with the opportunities of using renewable energy sources, with special emphasis put on the own legislative tasks of local governments and local priorities and needs.

The Lidzbark Warminski case study was presented during the conference.
