It is generally recognised that PV in buildings has the potential to become a major source of renewable energy in the urban environment. There is increasing interest, both in the UK and in Europe, in installing PV systems in urban areas. Professionals working in the field of PV in the UK report increasing numbers of technology enquiries from architects, developers and local authorities. The number of projects that have been initiated, however, is low and the knowledge of this technology amongst those involved in urban development is variable and often low. The PV City Guide project is working to increase this knowledge.
The consortium involved
in the project includes:
- INSTITUT CERD�
an independent, neutral and non-profit making Private Foundation based in
Spain.
- NET - Nowak Energy
& Technology Limited - based in Switzerland the company offers services in
the field of energy with particular emphasis on renewable energies (R&D;, consulting
and expertise, project management, market assessments, etc.).
- ECOFYS a research
and consultancy company, based in The Netherlands and Germany, and very active
in the field of PV.
- The Department of Building
Physics in the University of Lund, Sweden, which does research work
in the field of energy efficient technology in buildings.
- Cambridge Architectural
Research Ltd. (CAR) - formed over 10 years ago as a spin-off company from
the Martin Centre for Architectural and Urban Studies which is the research
wing of the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge, UK.
- Energy for Sustainable
Development Ltd. (ESD) a specialist UK company, active internationally
in the renewable energy industry.
- Energy Transport Agriculture
(ETA) an Italian organisation operating for nearly a decade in the development,
application and implementation of renewable energy (RE) systems.
