MEGEN Power Ltd
(MGP - Ethiopia) is an Ethiopian firm that specialises in the field of renewable energy, with particular emphasis on household energy. Its principals have worked in the field of household energy efficiency and renewable energy since 1985, and have been working with ESD on these topics since 1988. MGP work with agencies such as the World Bank, the ILO, UNIDO, GTZ, DANIDA, and a number of local and international NGOs.

It has a group of associates and employees who have carried out all aspects of improved stoves work, from design and commercialisation of the Lakech improved charcoal stove in the early 1990s, to household and market monitoring and evaluation. It has testing facilities and capabilities and has assessed the performance of various energy efficiency devices over the years. Since its formation in 1996, MGP has worked with a number of private sector clients to design and set up sustainable energy systems, with a primary focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency. This Ethiopian SME is currently working with several international and local firms in the field of micro hydro assessment (including working with ESD on a DFID micro-hyrdo study), on biomass energy efficiency (including with ESD and GTZ and DFID), and solar (with ESD and DFID). MGP is currently involved with ESD on three DFID KAR projects (institutional stoves in East Africa, SMEs and off-grid electrification, and the impact of micro-hydro on poverty alleviation.)
