Energy Alternatives Africa Ltd (Kenya)
was established in 1993 dedicated to the building of a renewable energy infrastructure
in East and Southern Africa. ESD has worked with EAA since its foundation and
is a 50% shareholder in EAA. ESD's principle directors have been working with
EAA's managing director in household energy since 1984. ESD and EAA conducted
the ground-breaking study on household photovoltaics in Kenya with EAA in 1993
and 1994. EAA has worked extensively for the World Bank, USAID, the Austrian
Development Agency, DFID, the Commonwealth Science Corporation/CSC and a number
of NGOs, trusts and private sector clients throughout the East African region.
EAA works in the renewable energy sector in awareness raising, training, consulting and project management and design. EAA also offers renewable energy technology design services. EAA is the only full-time service organisation in the IGAD sub region that has direct contacts with hundreds of renewable energy consumers and consumer groups and scores of sales and service companies. EAA see itself as a catalyst to the development of strong grass-roots level renewable energy development in East and Southern Africa.
