Description The department is an academic institution, which offers a Bachelors degree in Physics.
Current duties and responsibilities:

- Study, assess and develop the potential renewable energy and new energy technology  resources of the country and promote the   efficient use of all energy resources;
- Conduct research on energy resources and energy efficient technologies including  formulations and information of relevant development projects;
- Provide training in standards of electrical installation, and RETs appliances, construction  and installation and co-ordinate training on a wide range of energy topics.

Energy sector focus Its main areas of focus in the energy sector are its plans to initiate research in solar cells and solar energy. Renewable Energy Technology systems, including:

- application, construction and installation of solar water heaters & solar cookers;
-
installation, repair and maintenance of PV systems;
- standards of electrical installation;
- co-ordination of training on a wide range of energy topics
.
Target groups Training of professional junior physicists for industrial and research organisations .The courses are designed so that graduates would contribute to the activities of research organisations with a minimum amount of specialised training. For example, graduates should make meaningful contributions to solar energy research with a minimum amount of specialised training after their BSc.
