Ministerial Conference on "
Energy and Poverty Reduction in the Sahel"
Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), 29 - 31 May 2007

The permanent Interstate Committee for drought control in the Sahel (French: Comité permanent inter-État de lutte contre la sécheresse au Sahel , abbreviated as CILSS), the Instituto Superior Técnico (Portugal), The Center for Renewable Energy Sources (Greece), and the consulting company Energy for Sustainable Development ltd (UK), with the support of the European Union, Intelligent Energy program, are organizing a Ministerial Conference on the subject of "Energy and Poverty Reduction in Sahel" in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, between 29 and 31 of May 2007.

This conference, organized under the framework of the project "Intelligent Energy for Sahel" which is dedicated to the reinforcement of the capacities of Sahelian Countries to tackle the energy-poverty, will elaborate policy option to improve the cooperation between Sahel States on energy policies for poverty reduction.

Reports

The ie4 Sahel Project is well underway and into its second year of activities. Most of the activity to date has focused on gathering information and working with ARC, the local counterpart, to identify the key issues related to energy and poverty in the region.
